2000-Year-Old Man Found Living in Beeville, Texas

The Discovery Channel reports that a man found unconscious in the street in Beeville, Texas,
awakened in the hospital and claimed to be 2000 years old. Doctors said that they have not tried to
define his age and to determine whether he is actually 2000-year-old, although they express their
doubts about it. They claimed that, anyway, it is not their job to deal with living ancient history.
The story of his life he told is incredible, but he seems to be honest and sane, although he
manipulates facts very freely. As a matter of fact, he cited a pair of pieces of ancient poetry, one
of them from Vergil’s Aeneid, the other from Annales of Quintus Ennius, now lost. However, a
fragment of the previous chapter of this poem survived, and the philologists claim that the verses
the man cited sound like the fragment of the same text, written by the same poet at the same period.
This unique case represents the weakness of our science in the face of real miracle. This is both a
success and a failure that both upsets and bears a new hope – in any case, an incredible luck.
However, the researchers haven’t defined yet, whether this story deserves our trust.
