What level of Hebrew do I need to start the Yaelnet preparation course?

To ensure that you get the most out of the preparation course, you need to be able to:

hold a fluent conversation in Hebrew about everyday topics using the present, past and future tenses;
read and comment on a short academic text in Hebrew (15 to 25 lines long);
read and understand news articles in Hebrew;
understand Hebrew radio news broadcasts.

This level of Hebrew proficiency corresponds to Gimel level classes at a public ulpan.

Before starting the course, you will need to take a free placement test to make sure that your Hebrew proficiency meets our course requirements.

In addition to the textbook, students gain access to unique online tests, practice exams and over 150 continuously updated essay topics.
The textbook is available in both print and digital formats.

The database of practice questions and tests

Immediately after payment, you will gain access to an online database containing hundreds of practice questions. The questions are grouped by topic. The types of questions, their difficulty level, and allotted time fully mirror the actual Yaelnet exam.

Practicing test questions and writing essays online

Practice tests will help you manage time and familiarize yourself with the structure of the real test. You will have access to interim tests, full Yaelnet simulations with precise scoring, and hundreds of practice questions.
Our course will give you the opportunity to practice typing up your essay with limited time so that you will be ready for the real exam conditions. Every essay will get detailed feedback from our experts.

Improving your Academic Writing skills in Hebrew

The writing task accounts for one third of the final Yaelnet test score. During the course, each student will write 12 essays. Our experts grade and provide detailed feedback on every essay. We aim to improve academic writing skills based on four criteria: content, logical structure, grammar, and richness of the language.

Yael and Yaelnet

The academic Hebrew proficiency placement exam has two formats: paper-based Yael and digital (computer-based) Yaelnet.

The Yael (paper-based) test takes place twice a year, and immediately follows the psychometric exam for students who took it in a language other than Hebrew. (For example, the English, Russian, French versions of the psychometric exam take place in the spring and summer).
You cannot sign up for the Yael test separately from the psychometric exam.
You can take the computer-based Yaelnet at NITE computer centers in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Be’er Sheva, and Haifa. You need to register for the test in advance at www.nite.org.il.

The Yaelnet exam is typically held several times a month at every one of these centers. You can retake it as many times as you need, with the only restriction being that it cannot be taken more than once every 35 calendar days).

The formats give equivalent grades and differ only slightly in the number of multiple-choice sections and the time allotted for writing the essay.

The cost and dates of the exams are determined by NITE.
